The incredible interplay between woodgrain and indigo creates a spectacle along the surface of these Tsuki-Jiri Indigo Oak Plates from Morikougei.
The craftspeople of Morikougei specialize in a technique known as tsuki-ita, in which sheets of wood a fraction of a millimeter thick are painstakingly carved from lumber and reassembled. This process leaves behind a thin plank called a tsuki-jiri; rather than consign them to the waste bin, however, Morikougei takes these boards and turns them into beautiful tableware.
